Tour itinerary

Pick up in Cusco and transfer to Ollantaytambo

The Machu Picchu 1-day tour by train Vistadome starts with the pick up of the visitor at the door of his hotel in the city of Cusco. The pick-up is at approximately 5 am (before coordination by WhatsApp). The trip begins with the transfer by tourist minivan to the door of the Wánchaq station in the center of Cusco. There we take the Bimodal tourist bus from the Wánchaq station to the town of Ollantaytambo. In the trip of almost 2 hours, you will appreciate the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas (the towns of Chinchero and Urubamba).

From Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes

The Bimodal bus trip ends at Ollantaytambo station (2,792 masl) in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At the train station, there is a free time of about 30 minutes to enjoy breakfast (not included in the tour). At the station, we board the Vistadome tourist train. On the outbound section, the train includes a snack and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, the visitor will enjoy a dance show on board. The train has comfortable seats, tables, and panoramic windows to observe the beautiful Andean landscapes. After a 1 hour 40 minute trip, the train arrives at the Aguas Calientes train station (2,040 masl).

From Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu

In Aguas Calientes, the tourist must walk for 5 minutes to Hermanos Ayar avenue where the buses to Machu Picchu are taken. Aguas Calientes is only 10 kilometers from the Inca archaeological site. On the way back, the visitor will have free time to visit its streets, landscapes, and tourist services. The bus trip starts in Aguas Calientes. The buses are from the Consettur company, whose vehicles do not pollute the environment. After a 30-minute ride, you will arrive at the entrance of the archaeological site.

The tour of Machu Picchu

At the entrance gate of Machu Picchu, the tourist welcomes the tourist. Then, with the group gathered (group tour guide service) the entrance to the archaeological site is made. The chosen circuit is the ‘2’, which is the most recommended because it includes the visit to the main Inca buildings. In addition, you can get a postcard photo from the Guardian’s House. Upon entering the first section includes several stone staircases. After almost 30 minutes you reach the Guardian’s House from where you can get the classic photos of Machu Picchu. After getting the unforgettable photos, the tour of the Inca constructions takes place. First, we visit the Temple of the Sun. Then, the Sacred Square and the Temple of the 3 Windows. In addition, you will visit the Sacred Rock. The section also includes a visit to the Temple of the Condor, the Water Fountains, and more. During the tour of Machu Picchu, it is forbidden to retrace your steps. The guide will accompany you for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Return to Aguas Calientes by bus and free time

After visiting Machu Picchu you board the buses that take you back to the town of Aguas Calientes (at the same entrance gate of Machu Picchu). The Consettur bus ride takes 30 minutes. In the village, the visitor will have free time, first for lunch (lunch is not included in the tour). Then you can stroll through the beautiful streets of the village. It is recommended to visit the handicraft market, since inside it is the gateway to the train station. At approximately 4 pm the tourist must enter the train station.

Return to Ollantaytambo by train

The visitor must be at the train station 30 minutes before the train departure time. The train ride is on Peru Rail’s Vistadome service. The train includes comfortable seats, tables, panoramic windows (side and top) as well as board attention. The trip includes a snack and non-alcoholic beverage on board. During the trip, there is a show of dances and a parade of clothes made of alpaca. The trip takes 1 hour 40 minutes and ends at the train station in the town of Ollantaytambo.

Return to Cusco by tourist bus

Once in Ollantaytambo, the group will have to walk (approximately 2 minutes) to take the Peru Rail Bimodal bus. The trip takes 2 hours on average. The bus trip ends at the Wánchaq station in the city of Cusco. At this station, an assistant will be waiting for you to board the transport that will take you to the door of your hotel in the historic center of Cusco. The Machu Picchu 1-day tour by Vistadome train concludes with the farewell at approximately 9:00 pm.
