Machu Picchu was built by orders of the Inca Pachacutec in approximately 1450. The citadel was inhabited by between 300 to a thousand people. Then, more than five hundred years later, it is estimated that the Inca citadel receives about 4 thousand visitors a day.

Thus, due to the great multitude of tourists, the Inca citadel is in danger of collapsing over the years. The Peruvian authorities, as a protection measure, reduced the number of visitors controlled by established entrance schedules and circuits.

Thanks to these regulations, since 2008, Machu Picchu has been removed from Unesco’s list of endangered monuments. However, to get a ticket to the Inca citadel it is necessary to purchase a ticket in advance online.
