Visit the city of Cusco on June 24 when the world-famous ceremony of Inti Raymi, the Feast of the Sun, is celebrated. The tour also includes a visit to Machu Picchu on the second day of the visit. For each day the service offers hotel pick-up, full transportation (Expedition train to Machu Picchu), full entrance fees, and a professional tour guide. During the Inti Raymi, the tour also includes a buffet lunch.

The tour begins on June 24 with the pick up from Cusco and the show in three sacred sites: the Coricancha, the Plaza de Armas, and the fortress of Sacsayhuaman. That day the service starts at 8 am and ends at approximately 5 pm. On day 2 the tour starts at 5 am with the pick up and travel to Machu Picchu by Expedition train and bus. In both services, a guide will accompany the visitor. On day 2 the tour concludes at 9 pm with the transfer to the tourist’s hotel.

Tour itinerary

DAY 1 – INTI RAYMI TOUR (JUNE 24)

Pick up and show at Coricancha

Every June 24 the city of Cusco celebrates Inti Raymi, the world-famous Festival of the Sun. On that day the tour starts with the pick up of the tourist from the door of his hotel in the historic center of Cusco at approximately 7.30 am. Tourists who booked a ticket for the show at Coricancha will be able to watch the Inti Raymi show in a comfortable seat (optional ticket). Tourists who did not reserve a ticket will be able to sit in a reserved seat to appreciate the show that lasts 40 minutes on average. The show is a representation of live music by hundreds of actors and actresses from Cusco that demonstrate how the religious festivity was in Inca times. During the show, the visitor will be accompanied by a professional tour guide.

Show at the Main Square

After the end of the show in Coricancha, the whole group will gather for a short walk to Cusco’s Main Square. There, the group will settle in a special space to appreciate the Inti Raymi show which lasts approximately 40 minutes. The Inti Raymi show at the Main Square includes the presence of the Inca and his wife the coya, as well as his entourage and other participants that make up more than 500 actors and actresses. After the Show at the Main Square, the group will meet at Regocijo Square (just a few steps away) to take the tourist minivan that will take the group to the Sacsayhuaman fortress in 30 minutes.

The main show in Sacsayhuamán

In the historic fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the main show of the Inti Raymi takes place. Upon entering their respective seats (entrance included), visitors will enjoy a box lunch with nutritious Cusquenian ingredients. It includes quinoa salad, main dishes such as grilled chicken, snacks, sandwiches, fruit, and cold drinks. At approximately 2 pm the show which lasts 2 hours and includes a majestic staging with live music and a great atmosphere. The tourist will have the support of the tour guide to understand the drama in Quechua (the language of the Incas). At the end, the visitor will be able to get pictures with the actors and actresses of Cusco.

Return to Cusco city

The Inti Raymi show in Sacsayhuaman ends at 4.20 pm on average. Then, the group will board the tourist minivan for the return trip to the city of Cusco. The return trip takes approximately 30 minutes. The transportation will take the visitor to the Plaza Regocijo or a central point of the city at 5 pm on average.

DAY 2 – TOUR MACHU PICCHU

Pick up in Cusco and trip to Ollantaytambo

The second day of the tour begins with the pick up of the visitor at the door of his hotel in the city of Cusco at about 5 am. Aboard a tourist minivan, the tourist will travel a few minutes to the Wánchaq train station in the same city of Cusco. Then, aboard a Peru Rail tourist bus, the visitor will travel from Cusco to the train station in the town of Ollantaytambo. The trip lasts approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Train trip to Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu

At the Ollantaytambo train station, the visitor will have 30 minutes of free time. It is recommended to use the restrooms and buy a snack or drink before boarding the train. The train ride is on the Peru Rail Expedition service. This train offers maximum comfort and safety: comfortable seats, large windows, tables, space for backpacks or luggage, and staff on board with snacks and drinks. The train ride offers beautiful high mountain scenery that progressively transforms into tropical mountain scenery. After a 1 hour 40 minute trip, you arrive at the town of Aguas Calientes. In this town, after a 2 or 3-minute walk, you arrive at the bus station. There you have to wait in line for 10 minutes before boarding one of the Consettur ecological buses. After 30 minutes of travel by tourist bus, you arrive at the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.

Guided tour through Machu Picchu

At the entrance gate of Machu Picchu, the tourist will meet his tour guide. During the tour of Machu Picchu, tourists will make circuit 2, the most recommended in the Inca citadel as it includes a visit to the main Inca temples. The first part of the tour will go up the stone stairs to the area of the Guardian’s House. There the visitor will have free time to get the best pictures of Machu Picchu (there you get the classic postcard photo). The tour with a tour guide continues through the Inca temples, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple (next to the Temple of the 3 Windows), the Sacred Rock, the Water Mirrors, the terraces, and more. During the tour, the visitor will be able to know the historical importance of the place. The circuit lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The guide will say goodbye to the visitors at the exit door of Machu Picchu.

Return to Cusco by bus, train and minivan.

At the exit gate of Machu Picchu, the visitor must take the Consettur ecological buses for the return trip to the town of Aguas Calientes (30-minute trip). In case the tourist booked the optional buffet in Machu Picchu, before descending by bus, you must stay at the exit of Machu Picchu because there, a few steps away, is the Tinkuy restaurant of the 5-star hotel Sanctuary Lodge. After the buffet, it is time to take the bus down. In Aguas Calientes, there is free time to enjoy lunch (not included in the tour). In this charming town, there are tourist restaurants, stone sculptures, a handicraft market, bars, cafes, and more. About 30 minutes before the train departure time, the visitor must be at the Aguas Calientes train station. Like the outbound journey, the return trip is by Peru Rail Expedition train service (includes comfort, safety, and attention on board with the option of selling snacks and drinks). After a train ride of 1 hour and 40 minutes, you will arrive back at the Ollantaytambo train station. Outside the station is the Peru Rail bus terminal. The tourist must board one of these tourist buses that almost 2 hours and take the visitor back to the city of Cusco (at the Wánchaq station terminal). Finally, outside the Wánchaq station, the visitor will be welcomed by an assistant who will drive him/her in a tourist minivan to the door of his/her hotel in the center of Cusco. The tour concludes at approximately 9 pm.
