Tour itinerary
Pick up in Cusco and transfer to Ollantaytambo.
The tour ‘Machu Picchu 1 day by train The 360’ begins with the pick up of the tourist at 4:50 am. The pick up is at the door of the tourist’s hotel in Cusco city center. Then, a tourist transport will drive the group to the Inca Rail bus station, at 843 El Sol Avenue (in the historical center). There, a tourist minivan will take us through the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, heading to the town of Ollantaytambo. The trip takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
360 train ride to Aguas Calientes
In the Inca village of Ollantaytambo (2,792 meters above sea level), the transportation will leave us right at the door of the train station. There the visitor will have approximately 30 minutes to make last-minute purchases such as snacks or drinks. To enter the station you will have to show your ticket, as well as your ID or passport. The 360 train is a great service because of its comfort on board. The train has comfortable seats, tables, and panoramic top and side windows (like 360 degrees). The train ride includes complimentary drinks and snacks. During the trip, a musical dramatization show of the drama Ollantay, the first drama written in the Quechua language, is included. After a journey of 1 hour and 40 minutes, you will arrive at the town of Aguas Calientes, which is also called Machu Picchu town because of its proximity to the Inca citadel.
Final bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu
In the town of Aguas Calientes (2,040 meters above sea level), we will descend from the train for a short walk to the Consettur bus station (5-minute walk). At the bus station, there is a queue of approximately 10 minutes. To board the bus it is necessary to show the entrance ticket along with the identity card or passport. The trip goes around green mountains due to the abundant vegetation. After the 30-minute uphill ride, you arrive at the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.
Tourist circuit in Machu Picchu
At the entrance gate of Machu Picchu the tourist, along with the rest of the group, will meet with the professional tour guide to begin the tour of the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. The chosen circuit in Machu Picchu is ‘number 2’, the most complete one that includes most of the Inca buildings, such as the Sacred Plaza, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, and more. The circuit also includes a visit to the sector of the House of the Guardian. From there you can get the most famous pictures of Machu Picchu. The guide will provide the necessary help to get spectacular photos. The guided tour of Machu Picchu takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. On this route, the guide will give you time for questions or photographs. It is forbidden to go back because once at the exit door is no longer possible to re-enter.
Return to Aguas Calientes and free time
After visiting Machu Picchu, at the exit gate, we board the tourist buses to return to the town of Aguas Calientes (30-minute descent). Tourists who added an optional buffet lunch, before descending by bus to Aguas Calientes, have entrance to the restaurant of the 5-star hotel Sanctuary Lodge (Tinkuy buffet restaurant) with the most delicious and varied dishes of Peruvian food. Once in the town of Aguas Calientes, the tourist has some free time to enjoy lunch (not included in the tour) and stroll through the streets of the town. The visitor must be at the train station 30 minutes before the departure time of his train ticket.
Return by train 360 from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo.
The return trip is also on Inca Rail’s 360 train. The train is spacious, comfortable and safe. Each car has comfortable seats, tables, and panoramic windows to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the Inca citadel. As on the outbound journey, on the return trip, The 360 train offers the dramatization of the musical ‘Ollantay’. The 360 service also offers complimentary snacks and beverages and comfortable background music. The return trip lasts approximately 1 hour 45 minutes and ends at the train station in the town of Ollantaytambo.
Return to Cusco and end of the tour
In the town of Ollantaytambo, you descend for a short walk outside the station. There are the Inca Rail tourist buses that, in a journey of 1 hour 40 minutes, will take you to the city of Cusco. The trip ends at the Inca Rail station on El Sol Avenue. There, in addition, a tourist transport will wait for the visitor to make the final transfer to the door of the tourist’s hotel in the center of Cusco. The tour concludes at approximately 9:00 pm.
