Tour itinerary

DAY 1

Pick up and transfer to Ollantaytambo station.

The ‘Machu Picchu 2 days all-inclusive tour’ starts with the pick up of the visitor from the door of his hotel in the city of Cusco at 7 am. The pick-up is in the hotels located in the historic center of the city (most are in this area). Otherwise, you can coordinate a meeting point as in the Plaza de Armas of the city. Then, a spacious minivan will take you to the Wánchaq station of Peru Rail. There you board the Bimodal tourist bus that takes almost 2 hours to take you to the train station in the town of Ollantaytambo. All the trips are carried out with the utmost safety.

Travel by train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes

In Ollantaytambo (2,792 masl) the visitor will have some free time to buy snacks or drinks (breakfast not included) before boarding the train. The train ride is in Expedition service, which offers comfortable seats, tables, large windows, background music with information about the trip, space for luggage, toilets, and on-board service with snacks or drinks. The tourist train trip lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The trip ends at the station in the town of Aguas Calientes, located only 10 kilometers from Machu Picchu.

Transfer to hotel and free time in Aguas Calientes.

At the Aguas Calientes town station (2,040 m.a.s.l.) an assistant will be waiting for the tourists to take them to the door of their hotel. The tour includes a standard 2-star quality hotel recommended for its cleanliness, order, and comfort. The service includes furniture, a clean and comfortable double or single bed, a hot shower, cable TV, wifi internet, towels, and more. The tourist will be able to settle in his room and then have free time to visit the beautiful town of Aguas Calientes. You can have lunch in one of the tourist restaurants (lunch not included), stroll through the craft market, the sculptures of the village, the thermal baths (not included), dinner in the village (dinner not included), and more.

Briefing and overnight stay in Aguas Calientes

Your tour guide will contact you to visit you in the lobby of your hotel to give you the ‘briefing’ or information before you visit Machu Picchu the next day. This usually takes place between 7 and 8 pm. During the briefing, the visitor will have the opportunity to ask any questions and clarify any doubts about the visit to Machu Picchu. Then you can continue touring the town to finally rest in your tourist hotel.

DAY 2

Breakfast and bus ride to Machu Picchu

On the second day of the tour, the visitor will have breakfast in the dining room of the tourist hotel (breakfast included). The breakfast is American style and consists of bread, jam, butter, coffee, milk, yogurt, cereals, fruits, and more. After breakfast at approximately 7 am the visitor will walk a few steps to board the ecological buses from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. Normally before boarding the bus, you have to wait in line for 10 minutes. To take the bus you must show the bus ticket and the entrance to Machu Picchu, as well as your identity card (or passport). The bus ride takes 30 minutes on average. All passengers are seated with beautiful views of the high green mountains that are the anteroom to Machu Picchu. The final stop is at the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.

Tourist circuit around Machu Picchu (circuit 2)

At the entrance to Machu Picchu, visitors will meet their tour guide and enter with the tour guide. The chosen route through the archaeological site will be ‘Circuit 2’, which includes a first section of stairs up to reach the Guardian House area. There the tourist will get the best pictures of Machu Picchu. The guide will be able to help you with the pictures and provide all the information about the historic site. After visiting the sector of the Guardian’s House, the circuit continues with a descent to the sacred sector of Machu Picchu. There, the visitor will visit various Inca constructions, including the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Intihuatana, the Sacred Rock, the Water Mirrors, the agricultural sector, and more. In total, the tour with a tour guide lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes. The visitor will be able to know the best Inca buildings and the history of the Wonder of the World.

Return to Aguas Calientes and free time

After visiting Machu Picchu, at the exit gate (also the entrance gate) of the Inca citadel, you must take the Consettur tourist bus that in 30 minutes will drive the visitor to the town of Aguas Calientes. In the town of Aguas Calientes, the visitor has free time to have lunch in one of the tourist restaurants (lunch not included). Optionally, the tourist can add to the tour, the buffet lunch in Machu Picchu. If you added it, before going down by bus from Machu Picchu, you must go to the 5-star hotel Sanctuary Lodge to enjoy the delicious buffet lunch, the best in Cusco. At the time indicated on your train ticket, the tourist must go to the Aguas Calientes station (arrive at the station 30 minutes before the train departure time).

Return trip to Cusco

The return trip to Cusco follows the same route as the outbound leg, but this time on the return. The Expedition train will take you from Aguas Calientes to the town of Ollantaytambo in a journey of approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. In Ollantaytambo, just a few steps from the train station, the visitor must board the Peru Rail Bimodal bus. This trip takes almost 2 hours and leads, in total comfort, to the Wánchaq station in the city of Cusco. At the Wánchaq station, an assistant will be waiting (outside the station) to drive you in a tourist transport to the door of your hotel in the city of Cusco. The tour ends at approximately 9 pm.
