Tour itinerary
DAY 1 – VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU IN CIRCUIT 2
Pick up and transfer to Ollantaytambo
The first day of the tour begins with the visitor being picked up from the door of their hotel in the city of Cusco between 7 am and 7.10 am. Then, aboard a tourist minivan, we arrive at the Wánchaq station in the center of the city of Cusco. At the station, you board a Peru Rail tourist bus. The trip goes through the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas (Chinchero, Urubamba) until arriving at the town of Ollantaytambo after almost 2 hours of travel.
Travel by train to Aguas Calientes
At the Ollantaytambo train station, visitors have approximately 30 minutes before boarding the train (they can use the restrooms or make last-minute purchases). The trip from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes 1 hour 45 minutes and is done on the Expedition train service. This train offers comfortable seats, tables, large windows, restrooms, luggage space, background music with route information, and more. The scenery changes from high Andean mountains to greenish mountains with thick vegetation. The final stop is in the town of Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu pueblo).
Bus to Machu Picchu and tourist circuit
In the town of Aguas Calientes, an assistant will meet us to take our luggage to the tourist hotel. Then you must walk two or three minutes to the bus station. There we board the ecological buses that in 30 minutes drive the visitor to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu. At the entrance gate of Machu Picchu, the visitor will meet his tour guide. The guide is a certified professional who will accompany the visitor through Circuit 2, the most recommended and complete. The tour begins at 2 p.m. and includes the classic photo of Machu Picchu in the Guardian’s House sector. Then, the tour continues through the sacred sector where you can see the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, the sacred fountains and more. The tour of Machu Picchu lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Return and overnight in Aguas Calientes
After visiting Machu Picchu the tourist will return to Aguas Calientes in the ecological tourist bus (30-minute route). If you booked the buffet lunch (recommended route) you must stay at the Tinkuy restaurant (5-star hotel Sanctuary Lodge) to enjoy a delicious lunch and then return by bus to Aguas Calientes. In town, the visitor has free time to stroll around the village (lunch not included). Or you can simply rest in the tourist hotel (2-star service recommended for its cleanliness, comfort, and safety). At night, the briefing or informative talk is held by your guide for the visit to the Machu Picchu mountain the following day. At night the hotel includes a hot shower, internet wifi, cable TV, and maximum comfort. During the night (dinner not included) the visitor will rest in the tourist hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes.
DAY 2 – VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU MOUNTAIN
Breakfast in Aguas Calientes and bus to Machu Picchu
The second day of the tour starts at approximately 6.30 am with an American breakfast at the tourist hotel in Aguas Calientes (bread, jam, coffee, milk, yogurt, fruits, etc.). Tourists will walk a few steps to the Aguas Calientes bus station. The eco-bus ride lasts 30 minutes and ends at the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.
Route to Machu Picchu Mountain
At the entrance gate of Machu Picchu, the visitor will enter the archaeological. Tourists will climb a stone staircase until they reach the entrance to Machu Picchu Mountain, where they will meet their private guide for the arduous hike up the mountain. The hike to Machu Picchu mountain is a challenge through hundreds of stone steps that can take between 1 hour and 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the physical condition of the visitor. The guide will accompany you throughout the route providing information, and safety and helping you to get the best pictures of the route. At the top of the Machu Picchu mountain (3,082 meters above sea level), you will get the most panoramic pictures of the place. Then it is time to descend to the exit gate of Machu Picchu (between 1 to 1 hour and 40 minutes approximately). There the guide says goodbye to the visitor. Optionally, the tourist can re-enter Machu Picchu (the ticket allows re-entry) to perform Circuit 3, which highlights the visit to the Inca House.
Return to Aguas Calientes and free time
At the exit gate of Machu Picchu, the tourist must take one of the buses that take 30 minutes to Aguas Calientes. As the previous day, optionally, you can have lunch at the Tinkuy buffet restaurant located in front of Machu Picchu. In Aguas Calientes, the visitor has free time for lunch (not included in the tour) or simply stroll through the magical streets of the town. Thirty minutes before the time indicated on the train ticket, the visitor must be at the Aguas Calientes station.
Return to Cusco by train
The return trip to Cusco follows the same route as the outbound trip. The first leg is by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. The train ride takes 1 hour 40 minutes. The train is a tourist train so it includes all the amenities on board (including staff on board for assistance and sale of snacks and drinks). After the train ride, you arrive in Ollantaytambo. There, outside the station, you will find the Peru Rail Bimodal buses. The tourist must board one of the buses that, in a journey of almost 2 hours, leads to the train station of Wánchaq. Outside the station, the visitor will be greeted by an assistant who will drive him in a tourist minivan to the door of his hotel at about 9:00 pm. End of the tour.
