Tour itinerary

Pick up and transfer to Ollantaytambo

The tour ‘Machu Picchu 1 day by train The Voyager’ starts with the pick up of the visitor between 4.20 am and 4.30 am from the door of the hotel in the city of Cusco (coordinate the address of the hotel to info@machupicchuterra.com). On board a tourist transport the visitor will travel from his hotel to the Inca Rail bus station at 843 El Sol Avenue, in the historical center of Cusco. The trip by tourist bus lasts almost 2 hours and crosses the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas until arriving at the train station of Ollantaytambo.

Travel by The Voyager train to Aguas Calientes

In Ollantaytambo (2,792 masl) the visitor will have approximately 30 minutes to use the restrooms or have a snack or hot drink. At the time indicated on your ticket, you will board The Voyager train of Inca Rail. The train ride is comfortable, safe, and entertaining. The train includes comfortable seats, tables, and windows with beautiful views of the Andean landscape. The train also offers snacks and drinks for sale on board, background music, as well as the Ollantay show, a staging of the first drama in Quechua whose origin dates back to Inca times. The trip takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. The final destination will be the Aguas Calientes town station, also called Machu Picchu town because of its proximity to the Inca citadel.

Final bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu

Aguas Calientes (2,040 meters above sea level) is the arrival and departure point for trains. Every day the town receives hundreds of visitors seeking to know Machu Picchu. In the town of Aguas Calientes, we must make a 5-minute walk to the point where the Consettur tourist buses board. Usually, there is a queue of 10 minutes before boarding the bus. The bus ride lasts 30 minutes. All tourists travel seated contemplating the beautiful landscapes of high mountains with thick vegetation.

Machu Picchu tour with guide (circuit 2)

At the entrance gate of Machu Picchu, the visitor and the rest of the group will meet their tour guide to start the tour of the archaeological site. The chosen circuit is the ‘2’, the most complete, and includes most of the Inca constructions, as well as the classic photo from the sector of the Guardian’s House. In the first section, the visitor will have to climb stone stairs for approximately 15 minutes until arriving at the sector of the House of the Guardian where the tourist will be able to get the best photos of the Inca citadel. Then it is time to descend through the urban and religious sector of the archaeological site. Circuit 2 includes a visit to important Inca constructions, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Plaza, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, and more. In total, you will spend 2 hours and 30 minutes visiting Machu Picchu.

Return by bus to Aguas Calientes and free time.

After the visit to Machu Picchu, at the exit gate of the Inca citadel, it is time to board the Consettur buses that in 30 minutes take the visitor to the town of Aguas Calientes. In case the tourist booked the buffet lunch, before descending by bus, you must enter the dining room of the 5-star hotel Sanctuary Lodge to enjoy the delicious buffet lunch ‘Tinkuy’. In the town of Aguas Calientes, the tourist has some free time for lunch (not included in the tour) and stroll through the streets of the town before entering the train station. The tourist must be at the train station 30 minutes before the departure time of his train ticket.

Travel by The Voyager train to Ollantaytambo

The return trip is also in the tourist train The Voyager of Inca Rail. This service includes comfortable seats, tables, and panoramic windows to appreciate the beautiful landscapes of the Inca citadel. The Voyager train also includes the second part of the ‘Ollantay’ drama. Two Inca Rail crew members will present the musical drama of this Inca play. The return trip lasts approximately 1 hour 40 minutes and ends at the Ollantaytambo train station.

Transfer back to hotel in Cusco

In Ollantaytambo, the group will have to walk a few steps to board the Peru Rail Bimodal bus. The trip will be similar to the outward journey, traveling through the towns of Urubamba and Chinchero (landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas). The route takes almost 2 hours. The trip ends at the station in the city of Cusco. There the visitor will be greeted by an assistant who will accompany him to take the tourist transport. This short trip will take you to the door of your hotel in the center of the city of Cusco. The tour concludes at approximately 9:00 pm.
